Obituary for Richard "Dick Preston Long

Richard “ Dick” Preston Long, age 78 of Jackson Twp., Stroudsburg passed away on September 7, 2019 at River Street Manor in Wilkes-Barre.
Richard was the loving husband of Lani (Matthes) Long for 55 years.
He was born in Portage on July 21, 1941, son of the late Lester and Sarah (Hensal) Long.
He worked as an Quality Control Inspector at the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna for 30 years.
Richard served our country with dedication and courage from June 22, 1964 until December 2, 1976 in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and received several medals.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 509 in Tobyhanna.
We have been blessed with the presence of Richard in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Lani, his three sons: Randy Long of Houston, TX, Ronald Long and his wife Janice of Bangor and Ryan Long and his wife Tara of Mountainhome.
He was the loving grandfather to Benjamin Long of Saylorsburg and Sarah Long of Bangor.
He is also survived by a brother: Chester Long and his wife Sandy of Pittsburgh and a sister: Irene Haggerty of Stroudsburg and a nephew: Jeffrey Long and his wife Chelle of Pittsburgh, niece: Karen Haggerty Berger and her husband Chris of Neola and a great nephew: Paul Shaver of Stroudsburg.
A prayer service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 15th at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1426 Route 209, Gilbert, PA
Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences on Sunday, September 15th from 1 pm until time of services at the funeral home.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
